About CIFF

Screening 220 films from around the world and highlighted by a series of gala events, awards, parties and special presentations, the Calgary International Film Festival is one of the largest of its kind in Canada and one of Calgary’s top destination events of the year – the 10-day multi-genre festival enjoyed by upwards of 50,000 cultural enthusiasts annually at cinematic venues across the city.

The 10th anniversary of the Calgary International Film Festival in 2009 was one of celebration and maverick idealism. With a seasoned perspective of ten successful years under its belt, CIFF 2009 was a journey filled with bold new ventures, identity development, stakeholder maturation, and of course, spectacular cinema.

The festival was fortunate enough to be named “One of the top 25 film festivals in the world worth its entry fee” by MovieMaker Magazine, and CIFF did its very best to live up to that reputation. Championing the finest in contemporary world cinema, 2009’s lineup was as relevant, topical, illuminating and entertaining as ever before. CIFF culled the newest gems from the world film circuit and provided Calgarians with a bolder-than-ever platform of motion pictures, new ideas, and global visitors. With the launch of the Mavericks initiatives and an enormous catalogue of success to grow from, CIFF and its partners realized more than ever in 2009 the need for integration of Albertan creatives with international visionaries.

With everyone collectively vested in the pursuit of a rich and diverse festival that reflects the values Calgarians treasure and defend, CIFF feels ready to move into the next phase of its history and make it an amazing experience in 2010.

Celebrating its 11th year, CIFF is once again set to showcase feature, short and documentary films hailing from more than 100 countries – Canada to Columbia to Cameroon.

The Calgary International Film Festival features something for every movie lover in the family, and runs September 24th – October 3rd, 2010.
