Original isn’t easy!
Celebrate!
This 10th Anniversary edition promises to captivate. The Calgary International Film Festival (CIFF) will mark this milestone with the launch of a new international brand, “Mavericks” which, at the forefront of the Festival, offers ten progressive international feature films by ten emerging filmmakers the chance to compete for $25,000 – one of the largest cash prizes amongst film festivals around the world.
International!
In early 2009, CIFF took Mavericks on the road – positioning Calgary and CIFF as the destination to showcase and celebrate the can-do attitude in filmmaking. At festivals such as Sundance, Rotterdam, Berlin, SXSW, Tribeca (NYC) and Cannes, Mavericks was received with praise and enthusiasm. The result - CIFF’s strongest program ever. CIFF’s programming team has crafted a line-up of the best in filmmaking from around the world that is certain to resonate with Calgary audiences. While we cannot be all things to all people, there is most certainly something for everyone! The 2009 Festival program will present Canadian and international films from more than 100 countries in feature, short, and documentary categories and of course, back by popular demand, are such series as “Music on Film,” “Late Shows,” and the cheeky “Hump Night” of risqué cinema.
Participate!
The year CIFF makes it even easier. Festival Central on Stephen Avenue will be Calgary’s one-stop shop for filmmaker interviews, scheduling information, and the all-important Festival Box Office. Festival Central at 207 8th Avenue SW, will be in full swing on weekday afternoons during the festival.
Indulge!
CIFF is proud to partner with American Express and participating merchants to offer film lovers and Calgarians alike, an opportunity to experience some of the finest dining along side the finest films in town to create a special night out! Be sure to pick up a copy of the American Express Dining Guide at Festival Central for more details.
